A Powerful Quote to Help YOU Reach Your Goals

cartoon mouse trapA friend of mine sent me a quote that made an impact on both my personal and  professional goals.  I hope that it helps you achieve your goals when you want to:

  • improve your communication skills
  • reduce conflict in the workplace or home
  • modify your exercise, eating or sleeping habits

Whatever keeps you from reaching your goals today had better be important – it’s costing you a day of your life!

What about your communication goals?
Have you kept silent with someone at work or home because he or she may get mad at you?  If so, what is this costing you?  Do you lose sleep over this or feel like you will erupt like a volcano?  John Lennon said, “Being honest might not get you a lot of friends, but it will always get you the right ones.”   I have learned the importance of being honest and plan out communication strategies before I actually have tough conversations.  I do get a better night’s sleep because I was honest and shared my thoughts in a constructive way.  It is not about winning or losing…it is about expressing yourself directly and respectfully.  Things don’t always work out, but at least the other person knows where I stand and I feel good that we had this tough conversation.

I will send you a FREE booklet on Powerful Actions to Achieve Your Personal and Professional Goals when you share your favorite quote on this post. 8_8

Do You Want to Create a Culture of Excellence?

cartoon office gossipDo you want to…

  • Reduce conflict in the workplace?
  • Get along better with your team?
  • Create a culture of excellence?

If so, this article is just for you.  If not you can forward it to someone who NEEDS to hear the message! 🙂  The ideas came from a brainstorming session during one of my training sessions on Creating a Culture of Excellence.

Select the Following Statements That Fit You and Your Team

  • I will talk to you promptly if I am having a problem with you.  The only time I will discuss it with another person is when I need advice in deciding how to communicate with you in a positive way.
  • I will not back bite or blame.  I will ask you to do the same thing with me.
  • I will not complain about another team member and ask you to do the same.  If I hear you complain about someone, I will ask you to talk to that person.
  • I will do my best to start with a fresh slate and forgive past problems.  I ask you to do the same with me.
  • I will recognize you when you contribute quality work.
  • I will remember that neither of us is perfect, and that human errors are opportunities for learning.

Negativity is MORE Contagious Than the Flu!

conflict cat with eye patchDid I get your attention with this title?  I do hope so.  There is a constant theme every time I work with clients…dealing with a negative person or department.  I’m sure that most of you are shaking your head up and down thinking of someone who you know at work who spreads this negativity.  I am writing this blog because I just read a terrific book about this subject.  I will share the main concepts to give you some ammunition when someone tries to bring you down.

Jon Gordon is the author of The Energy Bus.  It is a story about George who is VERY negative about everything in his life.  His mantra is “What else can go wrong?”  He has to take the bus to work for a couple of weeks while his car is being fixed.  The bus driver, Joy is extremely positive and helps George see how his negativity is spreading to everyone at home and work.  The first page got me hooked when George met Joy who was smiling and he said to himself, “Who smiles on Monday?”  I couldn’t stop smiling myself because I was thinking of a very negative person who has the same personality as George.… [Continue reading]

How NOT to Think Like Van Gogh

Van Gogh's Olive Trees

As you know, I usually write about Conflict in the Workplace.  This post is about inner conflict that we all experience at times.  I was inspired to write about this topic after reading an autobiography about my favorite artist – Vincent Van Gogh called “Dear Theo.”  The book contains letters to Vincent’s brother Theo.  It is a difficult book to read because you experience Vincent’s mental illness and internal demons.  You will find quotes from the book below.

I meet people daily who don’t know how to live their life to the fullest. My 2nd book, Take the Ride of Your Life contains stories and examples from my own life how important it is to live life BIG. This is one of the reasons why I continue my quest to help others become bold and speak their mind if and when others try to suck out their individualism with toxic behavior.
