Independent Community Banks of North Dakota Learns New Facts On Stress and Doing More with Less

I had the honor of working with the Independent Community Banks of North Dakota.  Wendy Ruud-Assistant Vice President of ICBND- asked me to work with her Emerging Leaders Development Group.  The Emerging Leaders are creative, bright, and open minded banking leaders who all impressed me…to say the least!

They are progressive, energetic bankers who want to better themselves both personally and professionally.
They are committed to preserve community banking and its philosophy.

We discussed The New Normal…Doing More with Less.

Check out the following topics from the training:

  • We can’t have a productive work environment if employees are stretched to the max in their work or home life.
  • All generations need to discuss their needs and challenges with each other in an open forum to create a positive work flow.
  • Boomers live to work.
  • Generation X work to live.
  • Generation Y blend the two
  • Making time for yourself is not a luxury…it is a necessity
  • Make appointments with yourself in outlook to go home at certain times to gain control in your personal life
  • Have strong conversations with negative people who pull the morale down.
  • Negative people need to understand that they waste a lot of time and energy.
  • Complaining cannot be tolerated.  Bringing ideas to solve an issue must be the new norm.
  • It is not enough to be efficient.  We also need to be effective!
  • New facts on stress:  Burn out means that it is time for a change.
  • Humor is a survival skill.
  • Improving morale is a constant challenge for all successful companies.
  • Learn the lean philosophy from Toyota.  Continuously look for waste.  Make sure people discuss the root cause of problems immediately before mistakes continue.

We had some very interesting group interaction on each one of the above topics.
Participants walked away with ideas on how to set boundaries at work and home.  They commented on how they enjoyed learning new facts on stress to reduce conflict in the workplace.

A special thanks goes out to Wendy Ruud, Anita Quaglia, Dawn Flaten, and David Mason who allowed me to interview them before the program.

Check out the video from Anita Quaglia and Jeremy Jensen – 2 Emerging Leaders on how they will set boundaries after learning new facts about stress.

Creating Meetings That Rock!

I recently had the privilege of working with the greatest group of women during a conference when I was the keynote speaker.  The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) in the Bay City MI area planned a most successful meeting.  They brought in experts who spoke on topics pertaining to the needs of their members.  The door prizes were perfect for the group. Their enthusiasm showed when they won a prize.  The agenda was followed 100% and the meeting even ended a little early.

They asked me to speak on Take the Ride of Your Life:  Shift Gears for More Balance, Growth and Joy.  The audience couldn’t have been any more receptive to the ideas and their solutions on how to become more balanced is book material.

The following is a list of some tips that we discussed in the program:

  • Making time for yourself is not a luxury – it is a necessity
  • Make sure you are part of the balance equation
  • Balance is important for all 5 generations in the workforce today
(I will be covering this topic in a future blog)
  • Setting boundaries at home and work for YOU is extremely important
  • Train your brain to find humorous things in life
  • You get what you tolerate

Below is a photo of the conference committee.

Kelly Vanzale is the person who originally contacted me to be the keynote speaker.  She is a professional who understands how to make speakers feel welcome and was instrumental in helping make the conference successful.

Below is a short video testimonial from Kelly.

Please send me the most pressing work/life balance challenge that you are experiencing in the comment box below.  I will reply to you and answer any questions that you may have for me.

Hiring Trends Survey

I’m partnering with Casey Jankoska who is the Client Relationship Manager for Express Employment Professionals. Express Employment Professionals are always looking for top talent and great companies to work with.  Her goal is to be the bridge to someone’s tomorrow.  They are hiring in the areas including office, customer service, skilled manufacturing and professional positions.  Most of the positions they work on are long term positions.  They help their clients relieve their burdens and help them make the hiring process easier.

Casey sent me the following “Hiring Trends Survey” and I want to share the survey with you.  Make sure to send this to people who you feel could benefit from this interesting report.

Hiring Trends Q4 Summary Report

The following questions mirror what I see in today’s corporate climate:

Please rate your current level of work stress
36% feel “overwhelming” or “very high” stress at work
63% feel “moderate” or “minimal” stress at work
1% currently feel “no stress” at work

Please rate how the following has changed since last year:
49% state their current work stress is “higher”, and 39% state “it has stayed the same”
42% state their pay rate is “higher” and 45% state it has “stayed the same”
68% state their currenc workload has “increased” and 25% state it has “stayed the same”

  • Resolving conflict and interpersonal issues are all part of our work life.
  • Delegation and prioritization are more important than ever before.
  • Coping with stress will always be an important skill for all of us.
  • The most important key is to communicate effectively with your team, management, and with yourself.

Remember…YOU GET WHAT YOU TOLERATE!

Please send me your comments about your own work stress.  Let’s see how we can plan for a better 2011!
