Effectively Deal with Passive-Aggressive Behavior | Video 2

Are you ready to discover how to ask strong coaching questions to those difficult people who exhibit passive-aggressive behavior?

If so, this video is for you.

I’ll share a few coaching questions that you can begin using with the person with this difficult condition.
Plus, you’ll learn action steps to take.

You’ll find the link to video 1 in the series “Effectively Deal with Passive-Aggressive Behavior” below this post.

Let’s get real: This conversation won’t be easy. I suggest that you start out easy. This may be a good time for you to bring up coaching to this person If the communication backfires.

Here are a few questions to get you started with those who exhibit passive-aggressive behavior:

  • Do you put off doing things as a way to punish others?
  • What is the truth that needs expressing?
  • What effects does this have on your life/work/relationships?

I use these questions when coaching clients who exhibit passive-aggressive behavior and seek my guidance.
I repeat you can start off using 1 question just to test the water.

Passive-Aggressive Behavior is Usually Tough to Handle on Our Own

  • It isn’t easy to change passive-aggressive behavior
  • Standing up for yourself is difficult
  • Passive-aggressive behavior is an easier way for them to deal with emotions without having to confront the source of their anger.

I hope these strategies will help you to effectively deal with passive-aggressive behavior.

I’m here if you want a private session or to help you create a successful plan and practice the skills you learned in this video.
Call me at 248.681.5831 or send me an email and we can set up a couple of sessions that will reduce your inner peace.

The video below is #1 in the series “Effectively Deal with Passive-Aggressive Behavior.

How to Stop Your Top Talent Leaving | Video

Is your top talent leaving?

Do you know why they leave?

Do you want to do something about this?

Watch the video below to discover 3 powerful phrases that can stop your stars from leaving your company.

Are you ready to discover how to lower the chance of this from happening?

Let’s address the elephant in the room

Many leaders don’t even ask the reason why top talent is leaving.

They don’t have the skills or don’t know that asking WHY can help keep star employees from exiting.
Coaching clients who implement these communication skills report back to me with some great news. Additionally, they ask hard questions to these great employees.
Many times this important discussion stopped their employees from leaving the company.

Step 1: Stop Your Top Talent Leaving

Help them feel heard.

Here’s an example:
An HR Professional client, Bob described how his employee Sue was very productive but had lost her motivation.
Bob spoke to Sue and discovered that Sue was risk-averse.

Things were changing too fast for her. She didn’t feel secure or heard.
Additionally, Bob asked Sue how he could help her feel more secure.

Step 2: Stop Your Top Talent Leaving

Here are phrases that will help you immediately:

  • Tell me more
  • I’m curious
  • I noticed

This is how Bob used these powerful communication strategies:

“I noticed that normally you add a lot to our team. Lately, I haven’t heard you share. Is everything ok?”

First Sue opened up about how she doesn’t do well when things change so rapidly. Next, she felt less stressed when Bob took the time to ask her how he could help. And, by listening to Sue’s challenges.

These phrases help set the stage for having an open conversation. Plus the other person feels heard.

How Your Company Can Create A Positive Culture Video

  • Are you ready to watch a video on how to create a positive culture?
  • Would you like to discover how two Human Resource Generalists take their jobs very seriously while taking care of themselves?

I had the privilege of interviewing Candice Rice and Lauren Melton who are HR Generalists at Schaedler Yesco Distribution.

The video below has several easy tips that you can use at work and home.

YouTube player

I’m compiling all the information from the interviews and you will see a  white paper in the future.

The rest of this article covers the main questions that I asked Candice and Lauren. Hope you enjoy your time with them as much as I did!

You Both Work in a Positive Culture – Tell us Morepositive culture

  • The company value’s us.
  • Leaders want us to have a home life.
  • Managers trust their employees to do their job.
  • Our motto is, “Work hard Go home Happy.”
  • It makes a difference when leaders value employees’ homelife.

What Stresses and Challenges do You Experience as HR Generalists?

  • Recruiting is a challenge.
  • Change is constant. And, we need to understand all points of view since there are always so many changes.
  • Some people get stressed out with change.
  • We need to know how to communicate to ensure that employees adapt to these changes.

How do you deal with Gossip Since You Have Such a Positive Culture?

  • Employees come to us with complaints about another person.
  • We ask them to go back to the person and find out the entire story.
  • Managers do step in if necessary.
  • We listen to the complaints and ask them to attempt to figure them out before they come to us.

What are Challenges That New Hires Bring Up to You?

  • Our company hires people who will fit in the culture.
  • New hires have a 30 day and 60-day follow-up.
  • We listen to them when they come to us or their manager to discuss their issues.
  • They tell us how they feel heard and we work hard to continue this open communication.

What Have You Learned When You Didn’t Work in a Positive Culture?

  • I left my previous jobs because management didn’t care about the team. I knew that I need to work in a non-toxic environment. That was #1 when I search for a new job.
  • I was thrown to the wolves. The team never asked questions because leadership didn’t care about us.
  • I learned how NOT to throw others to the wolves. This was a valuable lesson – even though it was a horrendous experience at the time.
  • HR is all about dealing with different personalities.

What  Questions Would You Have for Me if We Met for a Cup of Coffee?

  • How to deal with conflict resolution with family members – Without taking a risk and having people still talk to you.positive culture
  • There are individuals who have been here for a long time and they don’t like change.
  • There is pushback. Such as, why do we have to change things.
  • How can we help them adapt to these changes?

Joyce’s coaching moment:

  • Uncover the discomfort first.
  • Is it the lack of experience?
  • Are they concerned that they have the skills for this new endeavor?
  • Ask them to describe their main concern.
  • Use baby steps.

What topics would you like me to address in future videos?

  • How to speak to your boss when you have a conflict.
  • What to do internally before I open my mouth?

What advice would you tell a new HR Generalist?

  • You are here for the company and the people.
  • Our internal customers have different personalities.
  • And no matter what the issue is, figure out how to resolve it on your own first.
  • If you need support we are here for you.
  • Make sure that you have a good balance and go home and live your life.
  • There will always be conflict. Be ready for it.
  • You took all the classes in college. It’s difficult in the beginning. I didn’t realize how much HR does until I started working.
  • Don’t be afraid of challenges because they will make you grow.

A Powerful Reminder to Reduce Drama in Your Life

reduce drama

  • Do you want to reduce drama in your life?
  • Are there people whose high drama wastes your time?
  • Does this affect your stress level at work or home?

Most of us have drama queens or kings who zap our energy. Yet, we forget that we can set boundaries and actually change this reality.

Yearly I do a serious job of spring and fall cleaning. And, my list consists of clothes, clutter in my home or office, and relationships that are toxic.  All of these things reduce drama in my life – Big Time!

You heard me right.  We all have those who constantly complain yet never change anything in their life.  Or, their life is full of such hype it’s exhausting to listen. Life is too short to be around draining people who rain on our parade.

Here’s how I reduce drama and handle my spring and fall cleaning with these people:

  • Make a list of those who drain you.
  • Add people to your list who you want and need to spend more time with.
  • Who makes you laugh, smile, think, learn, etc?
  • Compliment those people in your life who you enjoy.

Remember this the next time you speak to a friend who complains about everything.  In fact, I’m not saying to end the relationship. Set boundaries to protect yourself from this drama king or king. Make sure that you limit visits with this person.

Yes, I do this too.  There are certain people who need to be in my life. And they are HUGE triggers for me. When I’m on the phone with these triggers, I make sure and say that I only have 10 minutes to talk before the next zoom meeting. This really helps.

Life is too short not to be with those who support you and bring joy to your life.

Please let me know how this photo of drama kings and queens speaks to you in the comment section.
