If You Are a Perfectionist are You Ready to Stop Being Your Worse Enemy?

Hello to all you perfectionists out there! This is a nonjudgment zone because I’m a recovering perfectionist. 🙂
It’s a freeing moment when we finally realize that being real is less stressful. And gratifying.

Joyce’s Thoughts About Being a Perfectionist

Learning how to laugh at our mistakes is a great sign of progress.
The last couple of years has shown many of us how we need to let go of being perfect. We learned many new skills because we had numerous courses to take while hunkered down. I bet you made a few mistakes while trying out these new techniques.

Coaching Clients Discover How to Let Go Of Being Perfect

Coaching clients share how letting go of being perfect is one of their highest achievements. I know what they are saying! They move forward with a kick in their step because their fear of being perfect isn’t as big.

It takes practice to learn how to laugh at our mistakes.

Perfectionists If I can Learn to Let Go…So Can You

I posted a short article on Facebook and LinkedIn today. It was all about being a perfectionist. I just looked at the comments from my connections which were very interesting.
I noticed that I spelled the word Perfection wrong. I didn’t type in Perfectionist. I typed in Perfection.

I would have been embarrassed in the past. I use Spell Check and Grammarly all the time. I goofed.
The new Joyce laughed it off and wrote a humorous comment about it.

This may seem like a little issue for some of you. This is a sign of growth as a recovering perfectionist.

Look out for a future post about the importance of humility. This is key in showing up without having all the answers.

Now It’s Your Turn to Comment About Being or Not Being a Perfectionist

  • Please share how you recovered from being a perfectionist
  •  How have you changed from being perfect and becoming real?
  • What do you still need to do to stop beating yourself up when you make a mistake?

Are You Ready for Four Tips to Stop Taking Things Personally?

Taking things personally is something that most of us experience. This post reminds us that we must stop thinking that difficult people or bullies know what we are all about. They don’t! We need to stop ourselves from feeling hurt when others put us down or use sarcasm. It is usually all about THEIR issues!

Don Miguel Ruiz is the author of “The Four Agreements.” It’s a powerful book with simple ideas for complicated times. Let me know which agreement “speaks” to you.

taking things personally

Taking Things Personally Tip #1

Agreement #1 is to Be Impeccable with Your Word.

I feel we need to stand up for what we believe in, especially during tough conversations. This is the time for us to stand up for ourselves and use our voices. It’s not healthy to hold on to our thoughts because we will react negatively – either erupt like a volcano or get an ulcer!

Coaching clients finally feel comfortable when they learn how to speak up for themselves. It’s rewarding as a coach to see clients get tough and brave – without losing their cool in only a few sessions.

Taking Things Personally Tip #2

Agreement #2 is Don’t Take Things Personally.

Once we learn this tip, our lives become less complicated. Mean-spirited people have issues and try to influence us with their rude or nasty behavior. This is when we need to tell ourselves that it has NOTHING to do with us. I know it’s easy to say. But, it’s possible.  Trust me on this one.

Bullies used to make me feel unconfident. Until I learned that they don’t have power over me. I am responsible for how I feel, not these rude people. These days I look forward to the challenge with bullies. It’s a game for me. Hey, I better be a role model for clients and my loyal readers.

Taking Things Personally Tip #3

Agreement #3 is Don’t Make Assumptions.

I know what some of you are thinking! Joyce, be real here – we all make assumptions. Of course, we do. This doesn’t make it right. Assumptions get all of us in trouble. How many times have you had the first impression of someone and found out later that your assumption was wrong? Again, this reminds us that we can do better than that.

Taking Things Personally Tip #4

Agreement #4 is Always Do Your Best.

I’m writing to the choir right now. You do your best because you are reading this blog post. My readers are professionals who strive to become the best version of themselves.
Does this sound familiar? Thought so. 🙂

We all have friends, colleagues, or family members that need to read articles on constant learning and growing professionally. You can always share any of my posts with them. They may be ready to hear the message.

The Best Stress Management Book That Will Help You at Work and Home

Do you want to know a stress management book that I recommend to my coaching clients?

I just started reading Jane Gunn’s book, “How to Beat Bedlam in the Boardroom and Boredom in the Bedroom.”stress management book

It’s the best stress management book that I’ve read in a long time on reducing stress at both work and home.

The title got me hooked. Then I started reading it and realized I must carve time to read Jane Gunn’s book.  In the next few weeks, you will see more content and quotes from this stress management book.

The content is perfect for sharing in Kick Conflict to the Curb: Stomp Out Your Stress.

We have read quotes about how we get stronger at the breaks. Today’s quote speaks to anyone who knows that we must move beyond conflict at our own pace.

As a Communication Coach, I share EASY strategies that fit their specific stress or conflict.

It takes time to implement these strategies and to feel comfortable using them. We need to practice experimenting until we find the ones that produce great results.

How does Jane Gunn’s quote speak to you?

What coaching strategies do you need to learn to reduce your inner stress?

Share your favorite stress management book. Let’s start a great discussion!

I promise to add many more clips from this engaging interview!

Take-a-ways to Deal with Workplace Bullying

  • The bully may have something going on at home and is taking it out at work.
  • We need to be adaptable to understand people.
  • Putting ourselves in others’ shoes is a skill that’s worth learning.
  • Being open-minded gives better results during tough conversations.
  • Honest conversations are the best way to work through conflict.

These ideas are all easy to put to use. I suggest that you select one or two steps and start implementing them. You will see your conflict reduced, especially with workplace bullies.

Thanks to Brennan O’Leary for such an engaging interview. I will invite him back to the show!
