Me Time Matters: Easy Self-Care Tips

Do you often give to others while neglecting your own self-care? Many of my clients express the desire to prioritize self-care but struggle to incorporate it into their daily lives.

Why Self-Care Matters

Self-care is more than just pampering; it’s essential for maintaining balance, resilience, and joy. Here’s why:

  • Self-Care Sustains Us: It preserves our ability to serve others effectively.
  • It’s Contagious: When we practice self-care, it positively impacts our clients, colleagues, and personal relationships.
  • Fosters Self-Acceptance: Regular self-care helps quiet self-doubt and criticism.
  • Builds Resilience: It equips us to handle challenges with greater ease.

Yet, many people find it difficult to practice self-care. Especially when they constantly repeat negative stories to others. This traps them in cycles of negativity or self-critical thoughts.

Practical Self-Care Tools

Here are simple yet effective strategies to add to your toolbox:

  • Take Breaks: Pause throughout the day to focus on the present moment. Go for a short walk or stretch while observing your surroundings.
  • Relaxation Exercise for Sleep: Struggling with insomnia? Try this visualization technique:
    1. Close your eyes and take deep breaths.
    2. Identify objects in your bedroom starting with “A” (e.g., air conditioner, alarm, artwork).
    3. Move through the alphabet (e.g., “B” for bed, blanket, books).
    4. Continue until your mind relaxes and stress fades away.

The Challenge

Remember, self-care isn’t reserved for vacations or special occasions—it’s a daily necessity. Incorporating even small moments of “me time” into your routine can lead to greater balance, growth, and joy.

I recently saw a poster at an airport that said, “Just ahead is the ‘me time’ you deserve.” Let this be your reminder to prioritize ‘me time’ daily.

Call to Action

I challenge you to commit to adding more self-care into your daily life starting today. Whether it’s a mindful break at work or an evening walk, these moments can transform how you feel and perform in both personal and professional settings.

Can You Relate to This? It’s All About Self-Care

Happy 2023! I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to touch base about the importance of self-care in the workplace. We know that employees who are well-rested, healthy, and happy are more productive and engaged in their work. That’s why it’s so important to prioritize self-care in the workplace.

My question for you this week is – What about you? Are you making sure that you are balancing work and home? Or is balancing life and work out of whack for you?

Joyce Had a Breakthrough in her Career and Self-Care This Week

We had a flood in our home and had to repaint and recarpet the entire condo. My aha moment came when I looked at the empty walls. I started to breathe with a sigh of relief.

What in the world was going on? It finally dawned on me that the uncluttered walls symbolized my life. I was doing more work and enjoying it less. It was time to gain control again.

I asked myself three questions (the same conversations that I have with my clients) such as:
1. How can I unclutter my day?
2. What changes do I want to make to enjoy my life more?
3. Which tasks get in the way when balancing my ambition with my inner peace?

Next week I’ll share what I decided to change. This is a breakthrough that is changing my life.

How About You and Your Self-Care?

What about you? Please ask yourself the following three questions:

  1. How can I unclutter my day?
  2. What changes do I want to make to enjoy my life more?
  3. Which tasks get in the way when balancing my ambition with my inner peace?

I’m Interested in Hearing Your Thoughts

What do you want to change to balance your ambition with your inner peace?

Let’s work together to create a supportive and healthy work environment for all our employees – especially YOU!

One of the things that I love about my career is meeting new people who are open to change and improving their lives. Let’s set up a complementary laser-focused conversation to discover one thing you can do to unclutter your life.

If I can do this, anyone can! 🙂

4 Reasons Why Practicing Self-Care is Important | Part 4

Do you know why self-care is important in your life?

Are you ready to stomp out your stress NOW?

This is the 4th article in the series “Self-Care is Important.”

You’ll find the links to the rest of the series at the end of the article.

This week you’ll discover easy ways to start treating yourself better. You heard me right! Most people don’t make time for themselves. And yes, it’s very dangerous for your physical and mental health if you don’t.

Full disclosure here! I’m guilty as charged. And finally learned how easy it is – once we make a few changes in our routine.

What’s the Deal About Why Self-Care is Important

Putting “me time” on the back burner is a big part of why we feel run-down and overwhelmed. Additionally, self-care helps us sharpen our mental and physical health. It keeps us healthy and happy.

When we take care of ourselves, we are better at staying focused with those special people in our lives.

I recommend that we take time every day to do something for ourselves.  You’ll find out how I do this further in this article.

Essential Oils Help Us Perk Up or Relax self-care is important

Why in the world am I talking about essential oils? Humans have used aromatherapy for centuries.

Rosemary can help some people boost their memory. Plus it relaxes me when I mix rosemary and lavender in a diffuser.

Eucalyptus and peppermint are my best friends when I need to write blogs or my social networking posts. I feel perkier and sharper when these essential oils are sending their aroma throughout my office.

We need to be careful because some people don’t like aromas. Especially if they are allergic.

Mindfulness is HOT and is Part of Why Self-Care is Important

It’s all about focusing on the present – without judging how we feel and think. This can be liberating.

There are many apps that are free for you to try. I recently purchased the “inner balance” program. This app has helped me calm my busy mind right before bed. It really works. It took me a long time to finally get on the mindfulness train. Hopefully, you already know of its power.

Music and the Importance of Self-Care

There are some people who don’t find music appealing. And they only want silence. That’s just fine.

Others can’t exist without music playing at home or work.

Music has always been part of my life. Rock and Roll is playing during the day while I walk or cook. Enya or spa music helps me unwind before I start counting sheep. 🙂

Start experimenting by listening to different artists. Find out from younger people who the top artists are and you may be surprised at how much their voice affects you.

Joyce, Tell Us Why Self-Care is Important to You self-care is important

I’m glad you asked. 🙂

I plan my day by putting only the important tasks on my calendar. First, I created a list of goals and what tasks need to be finished in order to reach these goals.

The great news is every day when I complete the tasks, I celebrate by rewarding myself.

It used to be food. I stopped that once the weight started climbing.

Now there’s a celebration list that I created. Organizing my basement and decluttering my home is on my list.

Everyone has different ideas to put on their calendar.

Walking or bike riding isn’t on the list because exercise and movement are part of my daily routine.

Laughter is on the list. I call a friend who I know makes me smile. This is on my celebration list when I’m ready for self-care or after I complete all the daily tasks on my calendar.

Self-Care Practices to Reduce Your Stress | 3

Are you ready for more ideas on how to use self-care practices to reduce your stress?

This is the third article in the series: Self-Care: Take Care of Yourself

This week you’ll discover:

  • Examples of self-care
  • A list of self-care practices to reduce your inner stress
  • Links for articles 1 and 2 are at the end of the article

Examples of Self-Care Practices to Reduce Your Stressself-care practices to reduce your stress |career path | reclaim your life

Everyone has his or her definition of self-care. Some ideas cost money and at times you’ll find activities that are free and bring you more sustained joy.

Consider a manicure or massage or any other pampering activity. It might seem indulgent for some of you. Yet, if the activity helps you de-stress and carve time for yourself, it counts!

Taking a walk or riding your bike doesn’t cost you money. Walking counts if it brings you satisfaction. If not, find another activity that suits you better.

The idea is to find self-care practices to reduce your stress that provides just enough calm to help you get through the day and wake up in a better mood tomorrow.

The following is well researched and linked to a longer life:

  • Exercise: People who exercise between two and eight hours per week throughout their lives reduced their risk of dying by 20 to 36 percent.
  • Finding Purpose: Having a strong life purpose is associated with decreased mortality rates.
  • Diet: Finding a good nutritionist helps you discover what kind of diet is best for your needs and health.
  • Sleep: Too-little sleep (less than seven hours per night) is linked with higher mortality rates.
  • Getting Outside: Spending time outdoors is associated with a lower mortality rate.

Self-Care: Take Care of Yourself During Stress (2)

Are you ready for more self-care suggestions?

This is part 2 in the series: Self-Care – Take Care of Yourself During Stress

This week’s blog is about:

  • What companies do to recognize self-care
  • Benefits of self-care
  • How self-care changes during our life

Here’s the link from Part 1 in the series.

What Companies do to Recognize Self-Care

A few weeks ago I shared a powerful interview with HR and Lead Associate, Brennan O’Leary. The short video below describes how his organization takes care of its people.

You will find the link to the entire interview at the end of the article.

Benefits of Self-Care

Self-care is anything you do to take care of yourself. Including physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Its benefits are better physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Research suggests self-care promotes positive health results, such as building resilience, living longer, and managing stress.

It’s all about taking care of and meeting our needs. It’s that simple, yet not simple to do.

Start thinking of your own needs right now. And ask yourself what is one small change you can make to take care of your needs better?

Self-care Has Different Meanings for Everyone

People will adopt different self-care practices. Additionally, our own self-care needs may change periodically. self-care

At times I need time to read a book just to take a break. Additionally, a walk in the winter is what I need to feel refreshed and energized.

We react better to our challenges and stresses. Self-care helps us stay positive during challenging times.
