Video #3 in the Series: Secrets from a Trainer to Engage Your Audience

#CommunicationStrategies #Publicspeaking #CommunicationStrategist

Welcome to video #3 in the series: “Secrets from a trainer to engage your audience.” Communication strategies are important topics for my loyal readers and I do my best to address valuable ideas to fit their needs! 🙂 This week’s topic is how to use humor to win over your audience.  Full disclosure here:  I’m NOT a humorist.  I do take serious topics and make them fun for clients.  You will learn my secret on how to help your audience crack a smile or even laugh after you watch this video.

The links to the first 2 secrets are below:

Here’s the link for Video #1 in the series:  Get to the Room Early

Here’s the link for Video #2:  Sit with the Audience

Communication Strategies #1:  Make sure and watch the first 2 videos

You will feel more comfortable presenting and let your natural humor appear once you greet each audience member and sit with the audience before your presentation. These 2 communication strategies help my clients relax.  Let’s face it, they can now stop being so focused on doing a good job and let go of their stress by speaking with their audience.

This is stress release at it’s best!  I know first hand on wanting to make that perfect training session.  I find myself less stressed when I do this one strategy and so do my clients.  I can concentrate on what others say and stop listening to that little voice in my head about perfection!

Communication #2:  Write down humorous comments during the meal.

Once you start speaking to your tablemates and really listen to their experience, you will have some humorous stories to use during your communication strategiespresentation.  Believe me, the funny gems are there if you only look.

Ask your participants if they are willing to share their stories or if you can use their idea without mentioning their names.  Give them a copy of your book or some small token of appreciation if you use their brilliance.

Stay tuned for more ideas on how to improve your presentations.  All of these ideas can be used in a small workshop or even a large keynote.

Video #2 in the Series: Secrets from a Trainer to Engage Your Audience

#publicspeakingtips #communicationstrategist #communicationstrategies

Do you want to know how to build rapport with your audience either as a workshop presenter or speaker?  This video is the 2nd in the series: “ Proven Secrets from a Trainer to Engage your Audience Immediately.”  Tip #2 is to sit with the audience before your presentation and not other speakers.  Communication strategies are important topics for my loyal readers and I do my best to address valuable ideas to fit their needs! 🙂

You will find secret #1:  Get to the room early HERE

Communication Strategies #1:  Make a Decision Where you Want to Sit

Let the meeting planner know that you want to sit with the audience for lunch or dinner and not with the other speakers.  Some of you may decide that it’s better to sit at the speaker’s table and that’s fine! This strategy is a secret sauce for me and my clients.  Building relationships is the key to successful communication.

Communication Strategies #2:  Listen to the Conversation at the Lunch/Dinner Table Carefully

This strategy works for me because I get a chance to win over a table by asking them questions about themselves, their job, their frustrations communication strategiesor goals.  Listening to your tablemates is a 90% guarantee that they will listen to you more when you go on stage.

I can be bold and tell you that this strategy will improve your rapport.

Stay tuned for more ideas on how to improve your presentations.  All of these ideas can be used in a small workshop or even a large keynote.

Video #1 in the Series: Secrets from a Trainer on how to Engage Your Audience

#communicationstrategies #engageyouraudience #publicspeakingtips

Welcome to my new video series:  Communication Strategies and Secrets from a Communication Strategist on how to Engage your Audience.  Tip 1 is so easy.  Arrive early at the room where you will be giving your presentation.  Communication strategies are important topics for my loyal readers and I do my best to address valuable ideas to fit their needs! 🙂

Communication Strategies #1:  Get comfortable with the room

Check out the chairs and seating arrangements.  Do you want your audience to sit in a circle, round tables or classroom style?  It makes a difference on the formality of your style, audience size,  and topic.  Practice with the microphone to make sure it is working and that there are no speakers in the ceiling that will make squeaky sounds.  Most hotels have staff dedicated to audiovisual issues.

Communication Strategies #2:  Greet your audience

Once you feel comfortable with the room set up, stand in the doorway and greet your audience.  This one idea will increase your audience communication strategiesengagement.  You can ask them the following questions to warm them up to you:

  • Why did you sign up for your session? That is if they had a choice to select from.
  • What do you hope to learn from me today?
  • What message do your peers need to hear from me?

You will gather great information to use to show your audience that you care about them.
Ask them if you can call on them especially if they have a great idea to share.

Stay tuned for more ideas on how to improve your presentations.  All of these ideas can be used in a small workshop or even a large keynote.

Secret # 4: Control Your Hot Buttons with Verbal Aikido

https://youtu.be/Sgv67BBX54U

Thanks to those of you who have registered for our upcoming webinar – Powerful Communication Secrets to Get Outstanding Results!  This article contains all 4 secrets to entice you to sign up if you haven’t already done so.  😉

The 4th webinar secret is verbal aikido – it’s about diplomatically dealing with difficult people – especially when they push you. The person who pulls back wins in martial arts.  It’s the same thing when we have conversations with people who TRY to make us defensive.

Here’s an example of an angry client attacking you:
The client says, “I requested the material 3 weeks ago and I still didn’t receive it.  What’s wrong with your company?”
A typical response is – “This is not my department and I have no idea what happened to your material” or “We are short staffed and are doing the best that we can.”

This person got defensive and you can only imagine how the conversation would escalate into an even more heated conversation. One way to use verbal aikido is to accept criticism.

For example:

“You’re right, it has been 3 weeks, I apologize for this and will have it in your hands today.  We have been short staff, even though this is NO excuse.  Call me in one hour if you don’t receive the information.  You can count on me.”

Be Direct with Resect®
–

a patent of Joyce Weiss Training & Development LLC.

It’s called the power talk formula and is easy to use after you practice the technique.
Be Direct with Respect® is a learned skill, a willingness to risk rejection by communicating directly yet gently.  It deepens relationships and resolves issues.

Use the following formula
I am –
your emotional response
When –  non – judgmental
Because –  how it affects you

Here’s a real case scenario from a client of mine:

I was embarrassed when I was disciplined in front of my employees because this discounted my leadership skills.

My client got her point across to her boss and gained an enormous amount of respect by being direct.
