A Happy New Year Greeting from Joyce Weiss & Mark Twain

Happy 2019!

This is the time of year that many of us set goals and feel guilty when they are broken by mid-January. 🙂 Mark Twain used humor constantly when he told stories and wrote about life.  I hope that you enjoy his message below.

Bike riding is my passion during Michigan’s beautiful fall, spring, and summer.  My goal is to use the same bike as I ride outside and put it on a special device in my workout room which allows me to shift gears and take the ride of my life.  The funny thing is – I constantly look in my mirror to check that no one is trying to pass me.  Old habits, my dear friends!

I want to hear from you.
Please send me an email HERE or comment on the blog and let me know your goals.  Let’s do what we can to support each other to achieve them!

It’s time for me to say until next time, I’m going bike riding.

PS  I hope that you and your family have a wonderful 2019!  Looking forward to seeing you soon.

A Motivational Quote About Courage and Confidence

Joyce Weiss | Career Coach| motivational quote

#confidenceandcourage

I just saw this powerful quote recently.  It reminded me that we all need encouragement at times.

I find a great motivation is finding books on topics that I don’t usually read. It’s amazing that the protagonist or message give me solutions to challenges that I’m facing.  A friend of mine just loaned me a book on the first Navy SEAL.  I’m in awe of the bravery and courage that these brave warriors portray every day.

Think of books or movies that would be a good source for your own inspiration.

One of the reasons that I send these motivational images is that clients have asked me to do so since they like the positive messages appearing in their email.  Hey, we need to do the best we can to stay positive in this challenging world of ours!

Here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • Where do you go to get encouragement?
  • How do you face your fears?
  • Is there an area in your life where you need that nudge to overcome a fear or complete a goal?

I want to hear from you

Add a comment to my blog what you do when you need encouragement.  What books have helped you?
You will receive a response from me because I enjoy connecting with my readers! 🙂  You are always welcome to send me a private email (Joyce@JoyceWeiss.com) with concerns that you are experiencing at work.

Please share this and any article that speaks to you or your company

Loyal readers like you help us find more people who could benefit from these posts. Help us help them reduce conflict and improve leadership skills and quality of life.

Samuel Goldwyn’s Motivational Quote on Critics

motivational quote | Joyce Weiss | Career Coach

#motivationalquote #SamuelGoldwyn #favoritequoteaboutcritics

Keep Samuel Goldwyn’s motivational quote handy the next time someone “rains on your parade.”  I’m sure you can think of someone.  Right? I was showing a neighbor my new garden because it came out better than I ever dreamed.  Are you ready for her brilliant comment?  “Joyce, you should put woodchips on the dirt because it looks too much like a forest.” I decided not to respond because the whole idea was to create my garden so it would look natural – like a forest! 😉

We can decide to listen to our critics or simply ignore them.  This neighbor has a beautiful garden.  Her garden is manicured with all the pink flowers planted in perfect rows. I understand why she had to add her two-cents because my garden is totally different than hers.  I only wish I could always be as open to critical people when issues are a bit deeper.

I take constructive feedback very seriously because feedback is important to grow personally and professionally.  The problem with most people is that they forget an important word – constructive.  Sarcasm and judgment are not part of the equation to get good results.

It’s your turn.  Please comment in the blog or send me an email HERE when someone offered criticism that wasn’t constructive.

My Favorite Motivational Quote About Determination

motivational quote | Joyce Weiss | Career Coach

#motivationalquote
#Zigziglar
#success

This motivational quote is perfect for those of you who have family members attending high school or college. We can’t force others to learn.  It has to be something discovered on our own.  Those of you who live Zig Ziglar’s words realize the power of his message.

Clients who are open to learning about themselves know that learning is a continuous process.  They progress quickly during their coaching experience.  They are open to learning how they can improve and are accountable when they make mistakes while trying new strategies.

I will not work with people who are not willing to answer the following questions:

  • What worked this week?
  • What mistakes did you make?
  • What do you want to improve?

People who are not willing to learn are not successful coaching candidates.  The ones who are determined to learn advance in their career and live a fulfilled life.  It’s not rocket science.  Coaches ask questions in order to help clients discover this on their own.

What messages do you take away from this motivational quote?
What challenges do you experience with colleagues or relatives who don’t know the power of constant learning?

Feel free to forward this message to those who need to hear these important words from Zig Ziglar.

One of my Favorite Quotes about Excellence

favorite quote | Joyce Weiss | Career Coach#favorite quote
#aristotle
#excellence

Many people ask me how I define success.  Success is being prepared, working smart, not giving up, surrounding yourself with open-minded people, and constant learning.  Excellence is part of the equation.

We all work with people who do things just to get by.  There are times when certain people just can’t push themselves to be the best that they can be.

Leaders have the tough job of deciding who stays and who needs to be dismissed. I help leaders manage mediocre employees who need that extra motivation.  Training is definitely an answer for some employees.  At times nothing seems to help.

How have you turned around a mediocre employee to become the department’s star?
