Inspirational Messages from College Keynote Speakers: Even in These Chaotic Times

Do you like to hear inspirational messages from keynote speakers at college graduations? I spent last weekend at both of my grandsons’ graduations at The University of Michigan.

Maria Shriver, an American Journalist, and Martha E Pollack, President of Cornell University, were the 2 keynote speakers. Their inspirational messages spoke to me. I’m sharing them with you because the timely themes are for all of us and our families.

Maria Shriver’s Inspirational Messages: This Uncertain Moment is Your Gift

  • What you need is already in you.
  • It’s not in a job waiting for someone to help you.
  • It’s inside you.

If you feel afraid of freaking out, that means you are aware. It’s a gift – You are a multifaceted alive human being. Fear kept me safe. I didn’t feel brave.

What Bravery means to Maria Shriver inspirational messages

  • Being a journalist and standing up to bullies here and abroad
  • Believing you are ok even when your heart is broken
  • Dropping the  judgment on others
  • Asking for help
  • The cure is in you. Bravery is inside you.

More of Maria Shriver’s Inspirational Messages on the Future

  • Every decision you make will not be the best.
  • You will criticize yourself and wonder why you didn’t do it correctly.
  • It will scare you and others.
  • Your fire and wildness will help you hold you down.
  • Live your values and speak your truth.
  • Live outside the lines that society made for you.
  • Most people settle. They want comfort and safety. Additionally, they are too scared to face the unknown.

Michigan grads, you are not most people. We need your work ethic, drive, and energy. We need you to cure all kinds of diseases. My speech is for all of you who are afraid and will take action anyway.

Lean into the uncertainty and chaos of this moment. Don’t let it hold you back. You may find yourself feeling alone. Don’t let that stop you.

There were wonderful moments and grief. When you find yourself in the darkness, you are strong enough to find the light. Grads, you get it. Walk forward, and the world is ready for your bravery. Light this place on fire

Inspirational Messages from Martha E Pollack, President of Cornell University inspirational messages

  • You are the brightest minds of the 21st century
  • You are problem solvers
  • Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good
  • Read and do what makes you happy
  • Take a deep breath and say, “We did it”
  • Celebrate all your hard work

Until Next Time, Be Well and Happy!

One of my Favorite Inspirational Quotes to Deal with Stress

I use many of Martin Luther King Jr’s inspirational quotes in my social networking. This inspirational quote is very important to me.

There are days that we feel we can fly. Of course, on other days, crawling seems to be our only option.

Moving forward is a coaching strategy that I use with clients so that they stop being so hard on themselves. Especially when things don’t go as planned.

We need to give ourselves a break at times and realize that we are human. It’s tough to do for the high achievers!

That’s why it’s important to have those coaches in our life (either our friends or professional coaches) to remind us that we have 2 options:

  1.  Holding on to our stress
  2. Moving forward with a plan to let stress go

Believe me when I say that I have to do this periodically. Especially when the technology is challenging during one of my course launches or on a zoom call when the connections are challenging. Moving forward with a second right answer sure helps.

How do these words speak to you?
What do you tell yourself on those tough days, so you don’t beat yourself up?inspirational quotes

President Lincoln and Charlie Brown’s Inspirational Words

It’s time to take a break from my messages about stopping rude people in their tracks! I promise to write more articles next week on this subject.

Today is a day to celebrate YOU. Let’s start with the inspirational words from President Lincoln:

inspirational words

Are you ready to discover why I’m writing this message?

  • Do you need a little more motivation these days?
  • Are you tired of all the negative news on TV? {so what else is new?}
  • Does sitting under a tree and reading a book for the next 12 months sound appealing?  🙂

Believe me when I say that the last bullet point is something that I contemplate at times.  That’s why I decided to celebrate my loyal readers who bring me hope, laughter, and inspirational words at times – especially during a coaching session.

Inspirational words from Charlie Brown and Snoopy

Last night I read a magazine and saw this quote which I knew I had to share with you:

Charlie Brown: “We only live once, Snoopy.”
Snoopy: “Wrong! We only die once. We live every day!”

Who knew that President Lincoln, Charlie Brown, and Snoopy would have so much in common?

Joyce, tell us what these inspirational words mean for you

Both of these quotes are small gifts that I want to give to all of you.  They mean so to me. I hear people share how much anxiety they experience due toinspirational words this pandemic. The people who are doing better are the ones who took some reflective time to look within and make changes in their life. They thought about their mental outlook, career, and relationships.

The ones who are having tougher times are the ones who can’t seem to move beyond their fear and lack of hope and motivation. I see this in my coaching practice. And do my best to ask important questions to clients. As a result, they look within and discover options besides constant fear.  It isn’t easy. It’s so possible! I see this daily.

Here’s a coaching tip: Ask your friends or relatives who are stuck in constant fear and anxiety to remember a time when they felt free, happy, and less stressed. Stay with them when they describe these times. We can all change our future by looking within and discovering new options.

Working on our posture is something we have to do constantly (I know this first hand!). It’s the same for our mental attitude. We need to remind ourselves daily and feed our brains with inspirational words.

Yes We Can Change FEAR Into Action!

Fear into action

Hello,  DEAR Kick Conflict to the Curb Weekly Update Readers!

I just thought about the power of this quote on changing fear into action.  I use this quote when clients want to improve their communication skills and relationships both at work and home.

Most of us don’t have the skills on how to successfully have that tough conversation.  It’s always a risk! Always! There is no guarantee that it will go well.
I always say that it’s worth the risk.  Our confidence level improves the more success we have with those difficult people or conversations.

It’s all about changing our mindset.  Not easy to do – and so necessary to change fear into action. We all need coaches or a support system to help us when we are stuck. Future blog posts will cover the 5 strategies in my Weiss Communication Success Plan – a significant cornerstone of our virtual course; Kick Conflict to the Curb.

If you want more information on the powerful communication strategies, all you have to do is search for past articles on the following related topics:

  • Conflict Resolution
  • The GAP-Your Safe Place
  • Making Conversations Safe
  • Triggers
  • Be Direct with Respect
  • Verbal Aikido

Let’s Stay Connected!

  • When have you changed fear into action?
  • Was it easy or hard for you?
  • How did this experience change you in a positive way?

I’ve shared my story about changing my fear of deep water into action by taking snorkeling lessons in a pool – Hey small steps, folks. 🙂 The action is that I took a trip to Bora Bora and you couldn’t get me out of the South Pacific because I loved the experience.  If I could overcome this lifelong fear, you can too.

What are some of your fears that you would like to overcome? Those of you who share either in the comment section below or send me an email will receive a new video (that I have not posted yet) about using props to engage your virtual meetings. It’s short and contains tips to liven up your virtual meetings.

Hey, Dear Readers, I’m here for you when you have questions about your own communication or relationship “challenges.” Feel free to send me an email. Full disclosure here: I don’t charge anything when people send me questions or comments via email. Staying connected is what it’s all about for me.

Have a Great Week!

My Favorite Motivational Quote from Aesop to Start Your New Year

favorite quote | Joyce Weiss

Happy New Year to you and your family!

I thought that this motivational quote is a perfect one to share with you as we start our new year.  Think of all the acts of kindness that you showed this past year – giving to your favorite charity, helping the homeless, volunteering or so many other ways.favorite motivational quote | Joyce Weiss

An Act of Kindness Goes A LONG Way

I was spending some quality time with my grandson, Justin at our favorite restaurant.  We were talking about altruism.  Not a bad discussion to have with a 20-year-old! 🙂  Our waiter, Dylan was outstanding and we joked with him while he made the dining experience very special.  I decided to call over his manager to express our gratitude for Dylan’s professionalism.  I asked Dylan to join us because I wanted him to know what I was about to say to his manager.

Dylan’s eyes beamed with appreciation and his manager kept on thanking us for recognizing his star employee.  Justin said, “Joycee
(that’s what my 3 grandkids call me) you just showed an altruistic act.”

I didn’t even realize that when I was giving Dylan’s manager the positive feedback.  This small act of kindness was for one reason and one reason only, to make sure that Dylan’s manager knew how much we appreciated the entire meal, especially the service.

How do You Show Your Appreciation to Others?

Think about small acts of kindness that you showed this year, it feels great plus someone else benefits besides us.

Please let me know how you show acts of kindness.  Let’s spread this feeling to others because there is so much negativity and hate and these little things make a huge difference for others.

I always say that I change the world, one person at a time when I coach emerging leaders, individuals or small groups to kick conflict to the curb to get the respect that they deserve.  It doesn’t take much these days to show appreciation for someone else.

I thank all of my loyal readers for your comments, interest, and questions all of these years.  I appreciate you – big time!
Let’s toast each other at midnight. 🙂

Until next time,
Joyce Weiss, M.A., CSP
