Tips to Be Happy EVEN in this Pandemic

Hello Loyal Readers!

Hopefully, you are intrigued by the title of this article – Tips to Be Happy Even in This Pandemic. I’ve been asked to address this important topic in my virtual training.  I see clients being frustrated by all the changes, new rules, and fear. Why in the world am I writing about Tips to be Happy during these stressful times.  For one reason and one reason only: Humor is an important survival skill. You will find a link to the article HERE: Tips on the Importance of Laughing even During Tough Times.

Mrs. Fred Rogers, wife of the TV personality was interviewed on how Mr. Rogers always stays so positive. Guess her answer. Come on. You are so close. 🙂  Her response was, “My husband was a good man. He constantly works on it.”

I do what I can to spin stress into positive energy. I’m realistic. I’m also a human being who is just as worried about the virus as the next person. I do my best to look at opportunities even during tough times. Both of my parents shared this quality and lucky for me, it’s in my DNA. Lucky for you, I share this tenacity with clients! It’s hard work and worth the effort. The two tips that you will find below are taken from my booklet, 19 Surefire Ways to Bring More Joy and Harmony Into Your Life.  We are creating a new site that will host 52 positive quotes with action activities and you will be the first to hear when it is ready for your eyes.

Tips to Be Happy #1:  Spend Time With Children tips to be happy

  1. See how curious they are about everything. They wake in the morning expecting to have fun.
  2. Write down a story when you were with a young child who said something that made you laugh or smile.
  3. Start collecting these communications or experiences. You will never be disappointed! 😊

Tips to Be Happy #2:  Explore New Options and Activities to Keep You and Your Family Engagedtips to be happy

  1. Determine what specific activities you can do to increase morale at home or work.
  2. Ask others to contribute their ideas
  3. What new games, outdoor activities, online gaming, or revisit family photos.

“The number one premise of business is that it need not be boring or dull.  It ought to be fun.  If it is not fun, you’re wasting your time.”

Seasons Greetings from Joyce Weiss

Joyce Weiss

I hope that you are spending some quality time with your friends, family and yourself during this holiday season!

Thoughts from Joyce

I was speaking to my son, Ron Weiss (RonWeissAttorney.com) about life the other day.  He came up with a simple yet important idea that is a good reminder for all of Joyce Weiss | Ron Weissus.  This coming year let’s do our best to appreciate what we have in our life.  We need to stop comparing our lives to others on their success either with family or work.

Social media does not help when we see the trips, family photos, promotions, etc from our friends.  “The grass has always been greener” when we look at others.  It does not have to be this way.  The moment we start looking at our reality and not making comparisons to others is the moment that we start enjoying our life.

Family, friends, and clients are three areas in my life that I NEVER take for granted.  It takes time, compromise, tough conversations, and positive energy to create these valuable relationships.

Joyce Gets Real

I can hear some of you say, “Joyce, I know this but my relative is so down and compares his or her life to others while ignoring the positives.”
Believe me, we all have friends and relatives who are down and out at times and who need a gentle reminder (ok not always gentle) on this important subject.  We all need a push at times and that’s why inspirational books, quotes, and trainers help others find joy in their life.

I will include some of my favorite motivational quotes and posters for the next few posts that you can share with those who need to hear this message.

Ron Weiss, I thank you for your gentle reminders to your mom at times to keep me on track.  That’s what families and good friends do.  We support and help each other when we are down and out or during positive moments.

Enjoy the holiday season and remember to look at what you have in life and share these thoughts with your loved one.  This could be the best gift that you can give.

A Motivational Poem to Boost Your Outlook on Life

Are you ready for a motivational poem to give you a boost in your outlook on life? A coaching client sent me Dr. Benjamin E. May’s poem – “Just a Minute.” Once I read “Just a Minute” I knew I would share it with my readers because it is such an important reminder for all of us!

I’ve only just a minute,
Only sixty seconds in it.
Forced upon me, can’t refuse it,
Didn’t see it, didn’t choose it,
But it’s up to me to use it.
I must suffer if I lose it,
Give an account if I abuse it,
Just a tiny little minute,
But eternity is in it.

motivational poemWho is Benjamin Elijah Mays?

Benjamin Elijah Mays was an American Baptist minister and civil rights leader who is credited with laying the intellectual foundations of the Civil Rights Movement. Mays taught and mentored many influential activists: Martin Luther King Jr, Julian Bond, Maynard Jackson, and Donn Clendenon, among others. 1894-1984.

More Thoughts from Joyce about this Motivational Poem

How much time do we waste? Too much. We all know people who get bent out of shape with the smallest stress – especially things that we can’t control.

Managing our time = managing our thoughts = managing our actions.

I’ve gone on many vacations when the weather is not picture perfect. Some people deal with it and still walk in the rain. Others complain about the weather for the entire trip! I was speaking in Alaska during the rainy season. Guess what? It rained! There were other trainers with me and some of them talked about the constant rain every minute! I wish I had a copy of “Just a Minute” with me to give to these downers!

A Motivational Quote: Advice From the Sea

I was snorkeling with my family over the holidays and saw the motivational quote below on a tree near the beach.  Those of you who know me or my work will see that the last statement is the one that caught my attention-Make Waves!

motivational quote| Joyce Weiss|Communication Strategist | Coach

This motivational quote is very powerful.  We make waves when we feel confident and use strategies to have tough conversations will almost anyone.  It takes courage and it’s always a risk to tell others what they need to hear and not necessarily want to hear.  🙂

Start making your conversation safe by using – I don’t want/I do want.  For example:  “I don’t want to cause stress between us.  I do want to discuss the importance of boundaries in our relationship.”  This sets the stage and hopefully, the conversation will be productive.  This is a great way to start off many of our difficult conversations.

2 Motivational Ideas to Renew Your Vigor and Energy

This is a great time of the year to use motivational ideas to renew your vigor and energy!  Make sure to take some time to reflect on what is and what is not working in your professional or personal life.  Hopefully, the 2 motivational ideas below will help you get you started!

Motivational Ideas #1 to Renew Your Vigor and Energy

Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe-German poet, scientist, and statesman said, “We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise, we harden.”

I’m sure that you know people who are bored, depressed or stuck in a rut.  A good indication is when you ask someone how they are doing and in a dull voice, they say, “Oh you know, the same old life.”  Make sure that this isn’t you, and if it is, decide what you need to do immediately to change this mindset!  It can be as easy as reading an uplifting book or going to the movies to enjoy your favorite actor’s talent.

Movement is my middle name.  I recently purchased a desk where I can sit or stand.  It has made a difference in how motivational ideasI feel.  As many of you know, bike riding is one of my favorite things to do during all the MI seasons except the winter.  There is a great tool that makes my bike stationary and I can ride during the winter in the basement.  Movement is something that most of my coaching clients hear me discuss because the benefits are impressive.

Here’s my first question for you:

What have you done or need to do to change, renew, and rejuvenate yourself?

Motivational Ideas #2 to Renew Your Vigor and Energy

I recently saw an ad on TV and wrote it down immediately.  “Five o’clock meetings come and go.  First home runs last forever.”

My son told me years ago, “Mom, we make time for the things we really want to do.”  This hit home when I was going in circles during a  busy time in my career.  I told him how frustrated I was that I couldn’t do all the things that I wanted to do or spend time with my friends.  His strong message was timely.  I thought about the things that were important to me and at that moment made some changes.  I was blinded by my busy schedule and didn’t see that I had choices on how I could spend my precious hours during that busy part of my life.  Setting boundaries is a message that I now share with all of my clients.

Here’s my 2nd question for you:

What is a personal boundary that you need to set for yourself to make sure that you make time to do the things that you want to do?

Let’s Get Real About These 2 Motivational Ideas!

I realize that these 2 ideas are obvious and very basic.  I also know that at times we need to return to the basics to make changes in our life.  Take some time to reflect and ask yourself the 2 questions.

1.  What have you done or need to do to change, renew, and rejuvenate yourself?

2.  What is a personal boundary that you need to set for yourself to make sure that you make time to do the things that you want to do?

I want to hear from you

Send me your questions or comments on how these motivational ideas “speak” to you.  You will receive a response from me because I enjoy connecting with my loyal readers! 🙂

Please share this and any article that you enjoy.
