Is Change Good or Bad? It’s Your Choice!

Print Friendly, PDF & Email
  • Do you want to thrive during all the changes at work?  cartoons change ignor it 023
  • Have you ever wanted to feel more empowered?
  • Do you wish you could put yourself in the driver’s seat?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you’ll be glad that you’re reading this post.
If not, read it anyway because I will give you ideas that you can share with your team if they are under stress about changes at work. This post will help reduce your stress and conflict in the workplace and give you some strategies on how you can look for opportunities in change.

Change is messy, chaotic and unpredictable

  • It rips an organization inside out.
  • Change is both painful and joyful.
  • Chaos is part of the new work reality.
  • We need to deal with change instead of accepting the status-quo…which is the kiss of death.

I just completed a training on change with a company that wanted me to help employees look at change in a different way.  It was so invigorating to watch the audience change their attitude from change being stressed out to finding opportunities.  It took a while for this to happen.  We had to stop looking at what the company was taking away and start looking at strategies to thrive during the chaos.  I wish you were a fly on the wall and could have watched this metamorphosis.  The rest of the article will give you 3 New Work Realities that helped with the process.

1. Accept ambiguity and uncertainty

  • What have you done to break the status quot at work?
  •  What are you doing differently than you were doing a year ago?

“Today’s employees need to approach the workplace like athletes preparing for the Olympics, but don’t know what sport they are going to enter.” Thomas Friedman

2. Behave like you are in business for yourself

  • What changes would you make if your name was on the building?
  • Hold yourself accountable for outcomes.

 3. Manage your own morale

  • What are you doing to increase morale?
  • It’s tough to stay positive in this changing world.
  • Failure is never final. Success does not last forever.
