What a gift when we look back and see how we’ve grown or overcome conflict.
This awareness is priceless. One of my passions is supporting others to find those hidden lessons.

This post is about humility and knowing yourself.

Two Questions to Ask About Humility

How would you answer these two questions?

1. What would you tell your 18-year-old self?
2. How have you changed since you were in high school?

Human Resource Professional Hernando Flowers was a guest on my show – Kick Conflict to the Curb™. The conversation was engaging, and his answers to these two questions took us deep into a fascinating dialogue. 

Hernando started out by saying, “Department Managers and Leaders wear so many hats. We can’t be frustrated at first. It takes time to discover our specialty.” 

I added that many leaders show no signs of humility. They have all the answers and are not open to hearing from others.

More Ideas About Humility

At 18, most of us think that we have all the answers. We are impatient and become frustrated waiting.

Hernando covered the following ideas on humility: 

  • We don’t have all the answers.
  • Surround yourself around people who have different skills than you.
  • Realize your weakness, and learn from strong team members in this area.

We continued discussing the importance of humility as a leader.

I would tell myself to trust myself even when others told me I “couldn’t do something.” It took a while to discover this awareness. I now help others trust themselves and stop that negative self-talk.
