Does this sound familiar? You worked all day and you can’t wait to go home and read a book or watch TV. Or…it’s raining or snowing and you can’t wait to get into your cozy warm up suit or jeans. Yet, you have a networking event written on your calendar. What do you do? Go home? Go to the event? You may rethink not going to your next event after you hear this heartwarming story.
I had the pleasure of meeting Sarah – the Regional Director for AccuQuest Hearing Centers when I spoke at the Bad Axe Mi Chamber of Commerce.
After relocating in MI, Sarah decided to join the Bad Axe Chamber because she needed to find a local florist to do business with. Sarah sends flowers to her customers 24 hours after they purchase hearing aids from AccuQuest.
Who do you think Sarah sat next to at her first Chamber event? You’re right – the local florist – Josh Roggenbuck who owns the Flower Farm in Bad Axe MI.
The plot thickens. Sarah didn’t just meet her new florist. She also met her future husband. She went to the meeting only to find a florist and wasn’t even looking for a husband. They were married 2 1/2 years later!
The morale of the story? We’ve all met future customers, new friends, or even a new boss at these events. Remember that there are so many opportunities if we only look for them. Well, in order to build our business or meet new people we have to leave the comforts of our home or office.
Happy networking!
