3 Easy Tips for Your Personal Development

Personal Development never gets old. For years I thought I was addicted to work. I recently discovered that I’m addicted to learning and not working. The good news is I feed my brain with new coaching strategies. The bad news is I need to take a break at times. I can live with that! 🙂

  • Are you a parent, leader, or coach?
  • Do you help others to develop their professional or personal development?
  • Are you ready to discover an important insight for your growth?

If so, continue reading this article. Carol Dweck’s said her powerful words when she trained teachers. Her message is strong and direct, and one of my favorite quotes.

We must be ready for all life’s twists and turns. And we don’t do any favors by protecting others, so they are not flexible in this ever-changing world. Most of us know of others who helicopter their employees or children. Micromanaging is not helpful and keeps people stuck not knowing how to deal with life’s challenges.

Personal Development Tip #1

  • Teachers, parents, coaches, and leaders must prepare new employees, clients, or children for the path. Help them learn the skills so they can succeed.
  • Share your lessons learned when things didn’t go well. Help them take risks. Mistakes are part of the process. Especially when we learn from them.
One of the reasons why clients come to me is, so they are prepared to know how to start and finish a tough conversation. They learn strategies, and we practice together until these new tools become a habit. At times the communication doesn’t go well even with their new strategies. This is to be expected. Take time to reflect on how to improve communication the next time.

Personal Development Tip #2

The coach’s role is to encourage clients to practice independently between sessions. Professional and personal development fail when people stop at insight and fail to build mental muscle to convert the insight into habits. Clients, employees, or children may learn a great new concept. Professional growth happens when they use the new skill repeatedly until it becomes a habit. Now, that’s the way to prepare them for life.

Stay tuned, you will see more information that I’ve learned from Shirzad Chamine on Positive Intelligence.

Personal Development Tip #3

  • This post is a good first step to use for you or others who you are preparing for the path of success.
  • Think about your personal development.
  • What were the best strategies to prepare yourself for constant change?
  • What lessons did you learn from taking risks and making mistakes?

We are destined to succeed as long as we learn from our mistakes!
